Pezhvak Energy Engineering Services Company (PECO), with its project titled “Drilling and Completion of Appraisal Well No. 3 in the Qezel Tappeh Field using the EPD Method,” has advanced to the final stage of the 2026 IPMA Global Project Excellence Award, securing a place among the three finalists in the Construction, Engineering and Infrastructure category.
The Qezel Tappeh Project has been selected by the International Project Management Association (IPMA) as one of the category’s three finalists, alongside projects from China and India. Reaching this stage signifies that the project has successfully passed an international assessment process and has been recognized among projects whose performance in project management and execution excellence has drawn the attention of the award’s international assessors.
Being named one of the three IPMA finalists is a significant achievement for both a project and its delivering organization, regardless of the competition’s final outcome. The award does not assess project success solely on the achievement of technical objectives or the completion of operations. It also evaluates the quality of project leadership and management, the approach to complexity and constraints, stakeholder management, innovation, teamwork, value creation and the sustainability of results. From this perspective, Qezel Tappeh’s advancement to the final stage represents more than the technical success of a drilling project; it reflects the maturity and capability of the project team in managing a complex mission within the oil and gas industry.
The IPMA Global Project Excellence Award is an international project management competition established to identify and recognize projects and teams that demonstrate outstanding standards of excellence in managing and delivering projects under complex conditions.
The drilling and completion of Appraisal Well No. 3 in the Qezel Tappeh Field is one of Pezhvak Energy Engineering Services Company’s flagship projects. It was executed under complex technical and operational conditions, involving the demanding requirements of high-pressure, high-temperature (HPHT) drilling.
The significance of this achievement is further reinforced by the project’s earlier success at the national level. Before entering the global competition, the Qezel Tappeh Project underwent a national assessment and received the Silver Trophy of the Iran National Project Management Award. Its progression from national recognition to becoming a finalist in a global competition demonstrates the potential of Iran’s oil and gas projects to participate and compete in prestigious international project management arenas.
This achievement also marks Pezhvak Energy Engineering Services Company’s second consecutive appearance among the finalists of the IPMA Global Awards. Last year, Pezhvak Energy was also among the finalists of the international competition held in Germany. This repeated recognition is particularly significant for the company, as it demonstrates that achieving high standards of project management at PECO is not limited to the performance of a single project. Rather, it is becoming an organizational capability and an integral part of the company’s approach to managing and delivering projects.

The winners of the 2026 IPMA Global Project Excellence Award will be announced on 18 September 2026 during the IPMA Global Awards Gala Ceremony in Hiroshima, Japan, held in conjunction with the 35th IPMA World Congress.
