The Petroleum Engineering team of Pezhvak Energy will present their SPE paper SPE-229497-MS, titled “Completion and Well Testing Events of the First HPHT Gas Well in Iran – Lessons Learned and Experiences”, at ADIPEC 2025 in a panel session attended by representatives from Baker Hughes, ADNOC and CNPC. Involved Petroleum Engineering team members of PECO for this paper includes Ashkan Salimi, Ali Zareiforoush and Pedram Molavi.
The well operations document the first post-revolution HPHT gas well evaluation and testing project in Iran, which conducted at depths of 3,600–5,000 meters with pressures around 15,000 psi and temperatures of 350 °F, the project targeted ultra-deep, tight Jurassic and Permian shale and carbonate reservoirs. Despite numerous technical, environmental, operational, and logistical challenges, Pezhvak Energy’s team successfully executed four numbers of FBDST well tests by deploying advanced simulations, proprietary downhole tools, and adaptive execution strategies.
Key innovations of the project include:
* Redesign of packers through mechanical simulation
* Novel perforation solutions under unconventional conditions
* Development of sour gas safety protocols
* Risk-based optimization enabling safe use of surface equipment rated at 10K and 15K psi
This pioneering project delivers unprecedented insights into well testing in ultra-low permeability gas reservoirs and lays the technical and safety foundations for the future development of deep gas fields in Iran.
Pezhvak Energy hopes that, with NIOC’s constructive approach, technical and operational collaboration between private upstream contractors and NIOC subsidiaries will be further strengthened. Sharing such demanding and unique experiences among these entities can pave the way for the successful execution of future projects under even higher pressure, temperature, and depth conditions.
